COMPENSATION

An advantage to a Pastoral Residency within a normal faith family, at least in our eyes, is the expanding of relationships, faith, and creativity that limited resources foster. Every pastor/minister in Christ City Church’s history has or is raising support, working a supplemental job, or pursuing a twin vocation. Our faith family’s pastors have always depended on “outside” resources in some way or another. Whether it was Jeremy working multiple jobs, Chaz pursuing his twin vocation of professorship, or Kyler raising support, we both know the difficulties and recognize the value in our dependency on numerous income streams. Asking residents to do the same aligns with our history and is a necessity for leading/planting a healthy, normal faith family in the city.

Pastoral Residents will receive a salary and benefits package between $50-$60k a year, partly provided by Christ City Church, our partners, and partly raised by the resident.

Christ City will help residents develop their financial support base by providing fundraising training and accountability and electronic and printed communication templates beginning in September of the year prior to the residency’s start. By the time the resident begins the program, they will have begun building the foundation of their support raising.

POST-RESIDENCY PLACEMENT

In the final year of the program, Christ City Church will help residents determine their post-residency placement in one of two ways:

  1. Church Planting | If this is the direction the resident is headed (based on their personal & vocational development plan and subsequent assessments), the program's third year will focus on the resident finalizing and moving into the beginning stages of planting a church. All of which, through experience and partnerships, Christ City will help them do.

  2.  Pastoral Career | If finding a pastoral job in another church is the resident’s route, Christ City will help them put together a resume and recommendations, as well as facilitate connections within our networks (Made to Flourish, Acts 29, Anchored Collective, Dallas Baptist Association, etc.). In addition, Christ City leadership will intentionally develop relationships with recruiting firms like The Shepherd Staff, Chemistry Staffing, Vanderbloemen, etc. Christ City will not find residents a job, but we will do all we can to assist each resident’s job search.

RESIDENT EXPECTATIONS

Pastoral Residents commit to not taking another job in the first two years of the residency program. The third year of the program is designed for the residents to finish out and hand off their Christ City-specific responsibilities to in-house leaders and incoming residents early in the year so that the final months are a combination of finding the resident’s next place, helping prepare and shape the next iteration of the program, and celebrating their accomplishment while sending them (and maybe a little grieving too!).

Pastoral Residents commit to maintaining personal, financial, familial, and professional integrity and character consistent with those called to serve by leading the faith family (1 Timothy 3:1-13) throughout the entirety of the program. Pastoral Residents commit to raising $35,000 yearly for the program.
