I think most of us would agree that waiting is hard. Waiting on small things (like the next episode of Ted Lasso) all the way to the big things- waiting for a change in circumstance, relationship, role, job, etc. What struck me most in this Psalm was how often the Psalmist uses ‘Lord’. 8 times in 8 verses. I think it’s indicative of the first step in the waiting- bringing our attention to God. The Psalmist is continually using God’s name, recognizing Him, calling out to Him. And from this the Psalmist can then start to shift from not just recognizing God’s presence in the waiting but being reminded of what is actually true about God and God with us.
· With God is plentiful redemption. (v. 7)
· With God is forgiveness. (v. 4)
· With God is steadfast love. (v. 7)
· With God there is hope. (v. 7)
Lord, help Christ City Church to meditate, remember, and remind each other of these truths. Help us, Lord, to speak your name often and be aware of your presence with us in the waiting. Lord, when we yearn for change and get overwhelmed by sin in us and around us, let us cling to the truth that with You comes generous redemption of all things. O, Christ City, hope in the Lord! Amen.
