The first Advent Monday Psalm from Christ City Children
Read Psalm 62:5-8 (MSG)
This psalm reminds me of the Advent season for several reasons. First, it begins with “God, the one and only,” which shows me that God is unique, that he is powerful, and that he can do amazing things, like miracles. And so waiting, which we do a lot of at Christmas time, “as long as he says,” makes me think about the miracle of Jesus’ birth and our need to be with him and his giving us what we need.
Second, this psalm makes me think of Christmas because it says, “for everything I hope for comes from him,” and that makes me think of waiting for the presents, and that in the end, it is worth the wait. We had to wait for Jesus to die on the cross to save us from our sin and show us how to live with God and others. And now we are waiting for Jesus to return so we can live a holy life with him forever.
Lastly, the psalm says, “I am set for life,” and that reminds me of God’s giving and setting us up for life with him and life on earth by all the friends and family he gifts us to support us and remind us that he is with us and protects us, for he is “a safe place to be.” Christmas is a time where we are with family and friends in a special way that we get to share in all the things we have been given as we give to one another and remind each other that the best place is with God.
Amen.
