Psalm 131

A prayer based on Psalm 131 (AMP).

Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty;

… Help us to see when our heart is puffed up with arrogance and when our eyes begin to rise, so that we begin to look down our nose at everyone and everything around us …

Nor do I involve myself in great matters,

… Give us a clear sense of the goodness of our human-ness and the abundance of our stations, showing us what joy there is in radical contentment…

Or in things too difficult for me.

… Remind us that our limitations are a gift and that it is within them that we become truly free …

Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul;

… Because we can trust You …

Like a weaned child [resting] with his mother,

… Resting in Your arms safe, and secure …

My soul is like a weaned child within me [composed and freed from discontent].

… No more anxiety, no more fear, fully at home in Your Life and in Your Love …

O Israel, hope in the Lord
From this time forth and forever.

Amen.
