Read Psalm 32.
1 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit
Psalm 32 begins where the Lenten season ends: at the cross. Because Jesus saves, we are able to live in the reality that our sins are forgiven and covered. That about sums it up, right? Guess I can end this Monday Psalm early.
In honest confession, that’s how I often approach my relationship with God. I get comfortable in the simple truths, but I miss out on so much more. I cheapen my relationship with Him, which spills over into my actions and relationships with others. However, by the Lord’s grace, I’m reminded that my/our story doesn’t end that way, and it can change — today.
As we’ve been learning and discussing as a faith family, the Lord calls us into eternity with Him right now. So what does that look like?
This psalm goes on to encourages us to acknowledge our sins, receive his forgiveness, humble ourselves in instruction, and be glad. And in response, shout for joy!
In one of our Lenten resources, Journey to the Cross, I found this counsel from Paul David Tripp fitting (and my prayer for us, Christ City, is that we heed this advice):
“When the Bible commands you to rejoice, it is calling you to surrender the control of your heart to the one who always gives you reason to rejoice, no matter what is going on in your life.”
