In this Psalm, David beseeches God, asking Him to change the current circumstances. David recognizes God for the attributes He has already revealed: His faithfulness, righteousness, lovingkindness, and place of refuge. Even as David cries out, He cries with an assurance of God’s true nature and character. Ultimately, at the end of the Psalm, he submits himself as a servant to God.
Teach me to do your will,
For You are my God.
Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
In Your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.
And in Your lovingkindness, cut off my enemies
And destroy all those who afflict my soul,
For I am Your servant.
In boldness David boasts of God’s character and ability to create change, yet in humility he submits to God’s will and Kingship, whatever the outcome. May we all find it within us to do the same this week.
