O Lord God of hosts,
who is mighty as you are, O Lord,
with your faithfulness all around you?
Psalm 89:8
I, just like the psalmist and everyone else, am riding the ups and downs of life. Trying to praise God and remember his presence in the hard times, the strange times like now. I try to remind myself:
No matter what we are experiencing, personally or collectively, Jesus is worthy of our praise.
I wanted to share my prayer with y’all as I meditated on Psalm 89.
Lord, we are so quick to forget you and your character in times of trouble and hardship. But you say, “I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips.” (v. 34) Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. The tribulations, the fears, the anxieties, the insecurities we face are all very real to us. You know them all. Every dark thought, every doubt. We confess that all the mounting uncertainty of our day makes us look to worldly comforts and distractions. These are nothing, fleeting shadows, compared to your greatness. Turn our eyes back to you, Jesus.
Let us also remember You rule the raging of the sea—the world and all that is in it. (v. 9,11) None of our present circumstances are a surprise to you. I praise you that you are a God that hears and responds to our cries of, “How long, O Lord?” Through the highs and the lows we can join the psalmist when they say, “I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord forever.” (v.1) Jesus, be our strength.
