2 I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.3 He will send from heaven and save me;…4 My soul is in the midst of lions;
In light of our recent period of examen, asking God to reveal himself to us and in us, I find myself focused on David’s faithful pleas. He sees the totality of his situation as he hides for his life from Saul, and he’s comforted. David knows that it’s His purpose (God’s purpose) for him that will prevail.
In referring to God as “God Most High,” David’s contrasts God’s position (above) to his own situation (in danger and in need of refuge). In the next verse he proclaims the truth of what is to come: God WILL come from heaven and SAVE me. In the faith of that absolute truth, David asks for the Lord’s “glory over all the earth!” So despite being in the midst of danger and evil, he wants to share his JOY that is and is to come.
As we transition into Advent, I pray that we continue to ask God to examen us. I pray that we, Christ City, understand the importance of the blessed relationship that allows us to commune with God and the immense joy that it brings. Thank you Jesus for coming to us in the midst of lions and saving us!
Amen.
