By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, - v.5
Psalm 65 is a refreshing shower. It is the surge of energy after an overdue workout. It helps me feel better and less tired.
I need Psalm 65 this week, because I need the reminder that the Lord answers me with awesome deeds - perfect righteousness - time and time again. I am worn out and overwhelmed by the weight of sin, and I am not alone.
Here I am, coming to the same place as everyone else - needing forgiveness, needing to be refreshed (v2). I need forgiveness from harsh words, judgmental thoughts, and lack of patience, especially at home. I need a fresh view of who I am in Christ, especially at work.
Through it all, God answers me by providing everything I need for a good life with him. Although I often overlook His awesome deeds, they are right in front of me. If I look closely, I see His awesome deeds in the determination in Kellen's eyes as he sprints faster than a cheetah. I see them in Tina's beautiful smile. I see them in little laughs from Addy and Cade as they play together. I see them in our Gospel Community coming alongside each other and adjusting to new rhythms of life.
The overwhelming feeling of sin gives way to the overwhelming feeling of love and forgiveness. I am actually surrounded by His awesome deeds and filled with peace when I hear the father's response to the older son in Luke 15:31 - And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.
Thankfully, Psalm 65 is my reality. And it is our reality. We are blessed because we are close to Him. We have all we need, because we belong to Him. Will you join me to stop for a minute to think about all that we have as sons and daughters of God - and co-heirs with Christ?
