There is suffering all around us. We live in a broken world. People in our community are facing abuse, mental and physical illness, poverty, loneliness. Our bodies are tired and will fail us inevitably. Our spiritual enemies will attack us and try to steal, kill and destroy. Even our friends will turn their backs on us and leave us feeling alone.
Jesus came to earth and felt this suffering. He dwelled with sick and suffering people. He felt our emotional hurt and wept with us. One of his closest friends betrayed him. He faced physical and spiritual pain and death. Therefore, we know we are not alone in our suffering. Our king was willing to come experience brokenness. Jesus can relate to our pain because he has felt it. He is close to us in our broken heartedness.
Blessed are those who have regard for the weak. God looks on and cares for us, we can experience blessing by considering the people arounds us, reaching out to and dignifying the weak and weary people we encounter.
At the end of this psalm, we are encouraged by the truth that God will deliver us. One day there will be no more suffering, only an eternity living in His presence. Praise be to the Lord!
