As I pray over this psalm, I can’t help but think that many of us sympathize with David. We, as a country and a city, are surrounded by uncertainty. A viral pandemic is worsening, economic uncertainty is everywhere, our country is embroiled in racial conflict and injustice, and the rhythms of our daily lives have been upended. Some of us are cooped up at home with kids who have missed their summer. We may be sick, or know someone close to us that is.
Take a second to pause and reflect on the stresses in our society and in your own life.
As David did, let us look to God today. He can “rescue us from the mire.” He is near to us and is our deliverer. He knows all of our doubts and worries and answers us out of the goodness of his love.
Take a second and confess your need for his nearness.
We are released from the burden of having to “solve” or “fix” the wrong in our society on our own. Let us go to God and let him be the originator of justice. Let us join him in his work and look to him for direction.
Let us pray together for God to open our eyes to how we can join him in the healing of our country.
God protects us, as he protected David. Therefore, praise him and be glad. “Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and all that move in them.”
Take a moment to praise God!
